Adult education in Brentford

Age UK offers a host of services promoting good health and wellbeing for older people in the London Borough of Hounslow. The Albany Social Centre and Feltham Lodge provide a venue for groups and individuals to meet and socialise.  There are many activities and classes on offer, including gentle exercise, yoga, Pilates, craft and social groups.

The Brentford Chamber of Commerce represents Brentford businesses, offering networking with local businesses and other members of the community, facilities to promote local businesses, a collective voice representing business in Brentford, and much more.

Running since 1989, this independent community forum reviews planning applications and provides an apolitical voice for Brentford.

Brentford Festival

Founded in 2005 and held in Boston Manor Park, the Brentford Festival has become one of the major community events in West London. It features stalls by local associations and businesses, food, entertainment, children’s activities, and much more. It is normally held the first Sunday in September each year but will not take place in 2012.

Brentford High Street Steering Group

The charity was established in 2006 to make Brentford High Street into a place people want to visit – again and again. The volunteer team have done numerous projects from markets to community art and car parking improvements to make the high street a better place NOW – rather than waiting for the long delayed High Street regeneration scheme.  The Steering Group is open to all.

A bequest by philanthropist Andrew Carnegie to the residents of Brentford in 1904, the library has a good computer database and access to the national loan system, plus a great children’s section. Use it or lose it!

Brentford Transition Group

Transition Brentford is a group of volunteers working on and supporting local initiatives for a more sustainable way of life. It covers food, recycling, transport, energy, communication and local economics/money.

Situated in the heart of Brentford High Street, this community hub has event space, meeting rooms and hotdesk facilities for hire.  Business development support and advice are also available onsite from Hounslow for Business.

Pyramid Centre, Brentford Library – 020 8560 3093. Boston Manor Road  Brentford, Middlesex TW8 8DW

The Pyramid Centre upstairs at Brentford Library is service for Hounslow’s African Caribbean community. It operates a lunch club for senior citizens, runs educational projects for young people and adults, and acts as a support and information service.

The foundation works to address mental health issues through counselling, mentoring and carer support. Volunteers can get involved in activities including administration, computing and group work.
