Minutes, June 2009

Brentford Recycling Action Group
Minutes of Meeting at
The Residents’ Club Room, Brentford Dock
@ 7pm on Tuesday 2 June 2009

Attending: Douglas Benford; Patti Horsnell; Hugh Picton; Kathleen Richardson; Rukmini West;

Minutes of last meeting agreed.

Apologies for Absence: Paul Richens, Diana Leap, Virginia Fassnidge, Sarah Hoyle, Simon Storey

Noticeboard: Hoping for poster from LBH, Natasha to let us know.  Meantime, Simon has volunteered to produce something creative and Simon Moore has suggested provision of a poster publicising topical gardening tips/composting. PH SS SM

Battery Box: Awaiting reopening of store and will request permission to reinstall. DL PH HP

Canal side Recycling: Continue to follow up. PH

Sonic Recycler: the Fifth one was held on Saturday 9 May 2009. The event was again a great success, certainly artistically, with a very appreciative audience. However, some elements, such as the stalls and general attendance, need to be looked at again. Probably next year Douglas will take a break from organising the event, as this year’s was a huge personal drain on his own finances and time, so perhaps deferring the sixth one until 2011 would be advantageous. A meeting will take place with Watermans to discuss these matters. DB

Future Events: Osterley Day: Sunday 28th June. Musicians and Dancers will perform on stage, artists will display their work, crafts, face painting, wildlife and sports’ workshops and demonstrations with free entrance to the House and Gardens. Agreed that we had committed to a number of events this summer and that we did not think we could do justice to another.  As many people as possible are recommended to attend this National Trust event from 12:00 to 5:00 pm.

Brentford Festival 2009: This very successful event will be held in Boston Manor Park on Sunday, 6 September.  Again, we will have a presence together with LBH’s Recycling Team. Paul will bring the worms. Further details nearer the time.

St Paul’s School Summer Fair: Saturday 4 July. Brag will be there, with the ducks.  Hugh will check the questions to see if we need more.

Ivybridge Estate Fun Day: Sunday 12 July 12:00 to 4:00. We should be there as usual. If Paul can bring worms they would really appreciate it.

Brentford May Fayre was held on Saturday May 16th in St Paul’s Park. It was a traditional fair with stalls and games.  The total event was successful but the weather wasn’t very good!  There was not a great deal of interest from the public in recycling. The Recycling Team from LBH weren’t able to attend.

Young Green Voices: Award Presentation:  Sarah has arranged with the Head at St Paul’s School and they will hold the ceremony in the school hall.  A date of 2nd July has been confirmed, starting at 6:30 pm.  A certificate, which is to be designed by Sarah and printed with the help of LBH, will be presented to all the children who took part in the project.  All our local Councillors have accepted the invitation to attend and Cllr Reid will present the certificates provided she gets back from her conference in time.  Staff from Hounslow Recycling Team will also attend.
