Other attendees were Cllr Reid, Natasha Epstein, 2 teachers from Hounslow, Maggie Thorburn from HACAN, and a representative from the Green Party, Chiswick.  When it was suggested that school children should be more involved in green issues, Ruk was able to show an example of brag’s contribution to encouraging this by producing a copy of Young Green Voices. The main topic appeared to be the Chiswick Riverbank. PH DL
8 Morrison’s Recycling Site: Patti reported on her and Diana’s involvement in the request to Councillors forclarification of the responsibility for clearing up the area in Morrison’s car park which is invariably in a very unpleasant state with fly tipping and overflowing containers. All our Councillors responded, one forwarded our email to the Recycling team and the response from Lyndon Capewell,  Waste and Recycling Officer (Recycling) is as follows:“We work in partnership with Morrison’s to provide a recycling site which provides various materials including mixed plastics, glass and cardboard. As we work in partnership we are often helping each other out with regards to the bins, obviously we are responsible for emptying the bins and clearing any excess recycling material (for example cardboard or paper).

Morrison’s has a corporate and social responsibility to make sure the site is maintained, this is because this is their site based on their land. However this does not mean the Council does not help out, even recently I litter picked the area myself, which although is not my responsibility I took the liberty of doing it while I was checking the site. Morrison’s is fully aware they need to maintain the site themselves by cleaning up around the area to ensure the site is frequently litter free. We have also cleared some small fly tips there recently. I have a good relationship with the store manager who does understand the problems that we face as well as themselves.

Prior to December we did receive collection problems with our contractor, as a result of the delay to collections this caused a backlog which inevitably caused the site to overflow, however all excess recycling material was cleared by the driver. The driver also sweeps around the banks while clearing them regularly as he gets frustrated when the site is looking a mess.

In order for this to be improved  we are now going to be introducing a fourth collection every Saturday for plastics to ensure the banks are constantly cleared and not overflowing, this will help with the weekend backlog also. We also have field officers who check the site regularly to ensure the sites are clear as they can be.

Obviously we also need to look at the waste being produced as it coming from major supermarkets including Morrison’s, and I believe we are seeing a lot of trade waste being put in the bins which is causing a problem with overflow, however I will take on board the comments made and will strive to maintain the site as much as I can over the next coming months.

I hope this answers your enquiry”

A response is being prepared.  Any comments from braggers would be appreciated.

9 Christmas Tree signs: The banner hanging outside the old Wilson and Kyle building has been there continuously for several years. There is also one opposite the rear entrance to Morrison’s. Can we find someone to remove them? PH
