Minutes, June 2010

Brentford Recycling Action Group
Minutes of Meeting held in
The Directors’ Meeting Room, Brentford Dock
@ 7pm on Tuesday 1 June 2010

Attending: Patti Horsnell, Hugh Picton, Rukmini West, Douglas Benford, Diana Leap, Virginia Fassnidge,

No Topics Action
1 Minutes of last meeting agreed.
2 Apologies for Absence: Michelle Aspinall-Baker, Sara Ward, Paul Richens, Kath Richardson
3 Noticeboard: Diana and Patti will attend to new display. DL /PH
4 Canal side Recycling: Facilities have been provided at the Hollows, which is riverside, towards Kew Bridge. We explained to Lyndon what we meant had been at the canal side near the Island development, i.e. Brentford Lock. He responded but did not have the correct location, confusing the Lock with the Dock. He said he would be happy to go out and do a site visit of the area to have a look further. We will remind him. PH
5 Give and Take Day: Definitely agreed in principle thatBrentford Dock will hold such an event but it is on the back burner for the moment. Hugh will keep us posted. HP
6 St Paul’s school will hold its Annual fair on Saturday 19th June 12-3pm. This appears to clash with Hanwell Carnival also being held that day. However, we discussed another “game” for the children involving throwing balls labelled with the names of recyclable items into relevantly marked bins. (Also could be used at Brentford Festival.) We’d like some help, please, and it would be appreciated if as many people as possible to attend, please. DL PH
7 St Paul’s May Fayre: This was held in St Paul’s Recreation Ground on Saturday 22 May and was a great success. Apparently, the Brag stall was missed! We should try to have a presence next year. ALL
8 Caterers Food Waste: It is very disturbing that food and packaging left over from public functions is not collected for recycling. We agreed we should write drawing the Council’s attention to this and requesting action. Draft paragraphs are requested which will be discussed at a future meeting. Lyndon hoped to look into the policies of the Civic Centre’s catering arrangements. We should ask if he has done so.  Meantime, Rukmini will be attending several functions at the Civic Centre and will monitor. ALL, LC, RW
9 Recycling site at Morrisons: Hugh suggested that Brentford Business Watch might be consulted on the use of CCTV in conjunction with Morrisons and LBH. It appears that Morrisons have shown no interest in participating in BBW but further efforts will be made by Business Watch to open dialogue between the relevant parties.
10 Brentford Dock Children’s Gardening Club: The Gardening Committee was very enthusiastic about this proposed project and recommend starting next January ready for the spring. HP
11 LBH Recycling Roadshow: Morrisons, Tuesday 22 June 11:00 to 3:00.  All available members to attend at some time, please. ALL
12 Osterley Open Day: Sunday 27th June: 12pm – 5pm. Osterley’s community fun day returns, packed with free activities and entertainment for all the family. Music and dance ~ Art in the Park ~ face painting ~ craft activities ~ free entry to Osterley Park House and Garden and much more. Look forward to a good attendance! ALL
