LBH Catering and Caterers Food Waste: Reply sent to David Adams 6 March:

Thank you for your very comprehensive reply of 14th February which we were able to discuss at our meeting last week and have taken note of the reasons for not becoming part of the Sustainable Restaurants Association.

We were delighted to hear the progress with regard to the reduction in packaging and recycling which has been made at the Council recently. We were impressed with the “Eco-Takeouts” containers (the representative from the Recycling Team brought us a leaflet!) and hope they will have a very big take-up.

The other measures which have been introduced are also very encouraging. We must all continue to be vigilant and keep up the good work!

Disposal of used cooking oil: Successful installation of oil recycling equipment to make fuel oil at Space Waye – Dan Brook will tell us all about it at the May meeting. ALL

New Homeowners Packs: Serious consideration will now be given to the updating of the website to include information for new residents and also the possibility of a hard copy to be printed for circulation.

During the discussion which followed we agreed that we would all look for ideas from other areas and each person selected a local authority to search their website and look for other voluntary waste action groups with similar interests. THIS TO BE DISCUSSED AT NEXT MEETING

Membership:  Responses from the letters received. Full results will be reported when collated. Again, thanks to Alex for his excellent work. PH DB

Brentford Community Council’s survey as part of the Brentford Sustainable Committee: Hope to hear results in the not too distant future.

Noticeboard: Virginia and Patti put the Thames Water publicity material in the notice board. Thank you, Cindy, for printing it all out. Ideas for next time required – probably regarding Composting Week. ALL

Cycling: Hounslow Cycling Campaign: Regular meetings continue at the Express Tavern, Kew Bridge on the last Wednesday of each month at 7:30 pm.

Transition Town: Film “In Transition” well attended on 8th February.  Next meeting will be on 19 April. ALL

Hounslow Recycling Team: Food waste trials are being expanded to more schools in Hounslow. Continued success will be reported. CG

Hounslow Recycling Team: The events planned for Spring which BRAG members may wish to be involved with are:

International Composting Awareness Week 2011: Sunday 1 May – Saturday 7 May. Saturday 7th May Composting Event will include a “help yourself to free compost” event – bring a container and shovel and take compost made from the green garden waste collected in West London. This will be at Hounslow Heath.

Food Waste Liner Promotion and Distribution: 9 to 13th May – opportunities to volunteer to help.

More detail will be given when available.

Paul Richens will advise and demonstrate the use of composters at Brentford Dock early in May.

TW8 Website: Can we ask that a note be added advising that appointments should be made in advance notice before accessing Spacewaye’s reuse section. (The details can be ascertained from Dan when he comes to our next meeting) KR DB CG
