Give and Take Free Swaps

Give unwanted Christmas presents a good home and pick up a bargain!

In the New Year, West London residents are being given a great opportunity to swap unwanted Christmas presents, pick up a bargain, and help the environment at the same time – at “Stuff for Free” events.

Between 12th and 22nd January, the Vision warehouse on Kendal Avenue in Acton will be the site of a unique event where people can drop off any unwanted “stuff” and take home other items they really want. This includes electrical items, thanks to DHL Envirosolutions, which will take away any broken electrical equipment to be recycled.

From 10am to 4pm, residents can take along unwanted items that are still in good enough condition for others to want and use, including books, furniture, gadgets and other household items.

On 27-29th January and 11-12th February from 10am until 4pm, after a team of volunteers has sorted through the donations, anyone can come along and take items they want. And it’s all free!

What’s more, you will be helping the environment – by reusing items instead of throwing them away, we save on landfill space, reduce fly tipping and help to save valuable resources. These events will also offer people feeling the pinch after Christmas the chance to pick up household items they might need.

Healthy Planet, a green charity, will be hosting this unique series of ‘give and take’ events in the New Year, in partnership with Furnish, a West London reuse charity, and West London Waste Authority.

Shaylesh Patel, founder of Healthy Planet, said of the event, “We throw away far too many items that could be reused or recycled, which means that our landfill sites are nearly at capacity and incinerators are unnecessarily burning materials that are still useful and have value to someone. By working with key partners to host events such as these, we can all improve both the global environment – by reducing landfill – and the local environment, by using empty units such as the Vision event-spaces for the community.”
