August Meeting

Brentford Recycling Action Group
Minutes of Meeting held in the Toll House, Brentford Lock
Brentford Dock
on Tuesday 5 August 2014

Attending: Patti Horsnell, Hugh Picton, Rukmini West, Douglas Benford, Virginia Fassnidge, Wendy Mackenzie, Louisa Perkins, LBH

No Topics Action
1 Minutes of last meeting agreed.
2 Apologies for Absence: Michelle Aspinall-Baker, Paul Richens, Kath Richardson, Andrew Dakers, Catharine Browne,  Thomas Burgess, LBH , Sam Thomas, Canal and River Trust
3 CHANGE OF VENUE: Our new accommodation in the Toll House at Brentford Lock is superb! Very cosy and comfortable – thank you, Sam, and we will very much look forward to your joining us at a meeting in the very near future. Thanks also to Hugh for arranging this. Thanks for previous hospitality to be sent to Brentford Dock Management. PH
4 Noticeboard:  This has been removed from the car park at Morrisons without a word from them or LBH, who apparently removed it.   This noticeboard has been a very important part of BRAG’s work – it was in fact a gift from LBH many years ago – and Louisa has said she would try to locate it and we can install it somewhere else. LP
5 Cotton Bag Project: The latest batch is stored in Hugh’s care, for which we are very grateful. We will be giving them away at Brentford Festival but we should all make every effort to help to distribute them at other events. ALL
6 BRENTFORD MARKET: Unfortunately, there are no vacancies on dates which we can do.  We will try again for after the Festival and, of course, share with FoE. We would still like suggestions for a theme for our stall.  Let’s try to make it dynamic!! Could we do composting advice?  And food waste information – has anyone any literature/illustrative information about anaerobic digestion (without referring to the Archers!!!)? ALL
7 BRAG Newsletter: Distribution is now complete! Copies are also in the library and we have kept some back for Brentford Festival. ALL
8 BRENTFORD FESTIVAL: This will be on Sunday, 7th September in Blondin Park, as last year. Please make sure the date is in your diaries, final arrangements to be made at the next meeting but we will need to be sure we have four people to help set up the gazebo by about 10:30. ALL
9 GRANT: The monitoring process, which is a requirement of the granting of funds from Community First, has now been completed and the document, compiled by Hugh, has been sent.
10 AGM: Three Tuesdays in November were suggested: 4th, 11th and 18th and we have agreed that Tuesday 18th will be the date. Please keep this date free and, if you know of any other events in Brentford which may clash – football match, Christmas Fairs etc.  PLEASE LET US KNOW IMMEDIATELY. We invited Jamie Quinn to tell us about his training course in the USA with Al Gore earlier this year but he has declined.  If anyone knows another person who would be of any special interest for us, please let us have details. We have asked Natasha Epstein, LBH, to speak and Louisa and Thomas, of course, to update us.   Paul Richens has promised to give us one of his very entertaining and illuminating talks.  Subject to be a surprise! Perhaps David Eales might like to give us a few words about Brentford Works?
11 Brentford Dock composters: Hugh advised us that the management of Brentford Dock have instructed the removal of the 21 composters they had as they consider them to be no longer viable.  Members and the recycling team (Lyndon, especially!) will remember the considerable effort which was made to provide these but, you will be pleased to hear that, in the best recycle/reuse tradition, they have all gone to good new homes where they will be used and appreciated.

NEXT MEETING Tuesday 2 September 2014 to start at 7pm in the Toll House, Brentford Lock
