3 Noticeboard and questions for LBH: A list of questions was sent to Councillors earlier in the year and taken up personally with Steve Curran at his surgery on 18th June. Following this, Hugh made arrangements for a meeting with Steve and Patti to discuss the issues. He wasn’t able to provide any immediate answers but the following was agreed:

a.     LBH are intending to spend £4.50 per resident on education and publicity for recycling.

b.     Fly tipping is a big problem which they plan to tackle – tough measures.

c.     He would ask Melanie Gadd, who is the new Head of Environmental Services & Contract Management to come to a BRAG meeting and the AGM.

d.     He suggested that he and other council officers should have a meeting at the council offices with other groups with similar aims.

e.     He was surprised and very pleased to tell us that 16,000 households in the borough had subscribed to the green waste collection service.

f.     He would like to arrange a visit to the new recycling/waste disposal depot in Heston which is near completion.

g.     Steve will definitely attend our regular meeting on 6th December.

h.   Waste collections are being resumed in house after the current contract with Suez, which ends on 31st October

Regarding the noticeboard and Morrisons, we have been in communication with the current manager, Martin Amphlett, of the Brentford store and await developments. Follow up emails have been sent without reply.  Rukmini said she saw him a few days ago and he said he was “on the case”.

4 Marie Curie Coffee Mornings: These continue to be held successfully every month in the Brentford Dock club room to raise funds. The next one will be on Monday 21st November from 10:30 to 12:30.  Excellent cakes!  Please attend if you can a very good cause to support. ALL
5 Soup Lunches: Also held at Brentford Dock club room on the 4th Thursday of the month from 1:00 to 2:30, next one 24th November. Very good value, homemade soup and bread – and cakes! – all for £3! ALL
6 Where does recycling go? We would like to make a visit to a recycling plant and will continue to see if we can arrange something in the future.  For general purposes the LBH website has very comprehensive information about recycling and recycled items. ALL
7 Recycling in Flats: Since nothing has been heard from the recycling team or the ward councillors we will pursue recycling facilities at Brook Court and Braemar Court in Brook Road South, and Downside Walk as soon as we can. We will ask Melanie. PH  HP
8 Future project: It was proposed that, since the junior school pupils who contributed to Young Green Voices have now probably started at University, we should think about encouraging more young people in the benefits of recycling etc.  Douglas suggested that we could do something similar to the magazines but on line. Please consider any ideas and recommendations which we will discuss at a future meeting, probably in the new year. In the meantime, please think about ways to do this. ALL
9 Newsletter: It was mentioned that as we have not produced a Newsletter for some time (2014) and we should think about another edition.  Possible topics for inclusion: Food waste/supermarkets, Cultivate London, Pollution – other ideas? We should discuss in detail, cost, distribution, editorship – and anything else. In the meantime, Andrew will be asked if he can help sort out the computer aspects of production as we did run into software difficulties last time. AD CB
10 Restart Project: This came up in conversation re. a recent item in the media about Sweden promoting repair instead of replacementThis is something BRAG have been advocating for a very long time so maybe it is time to resurrect and re-promote, suggestions and nominations could be another project?  This was discussed – Virginia has some information on this as Ealing’s Friends of the Earth are preparing a demonstration for local Cubs and she will report back afterwards.  It was suggested that we could combine with Cathja on the High Street and try to recruit some helpers/repairers.
11 AGM: This will be held on Tuesday 22nd November, 7pm at Brickfield Community Centre, Brickfield Close, Brentford, TW8 8JN. So far we have secured our guest speaker, Paul Richens, his subject will be “Does your houseplant know you’re there?” The new Recycling Officer at LBH, Melanie Gadd, has accepted our invitation to attend and bring us up to date with LBH’s current waste management situation.  There is a council meeting that evening so it is unlikely that any of our councillors will be able to attend but we have invited them anyway. No reply so far from our MP, Ruth Cadbury.
12 Christmas Lunch: We have agreed the date, Thursday 8th December, at the Brewery Tap. Patti and Wendy to consult management re menus and prices. PH WM

NEXT MEETING: Tuesday 6th December 2016
