1 Minutes of last meeting agreed.
2 Apologies for Absence: Paul Richens, Andrew Dakers, Kath Richardson, Sam Thomas, Canal and River Trust, Sheila Churchill, Hugh Picton,  Catharine  Browne, Cllr. Guy Lambert
3 Restart Project: Events will continue to be arranged in other localities, information on the next one to be held in Brentford, probably after the summer, will be passed on in due course. Further details on this subject and other restart parties may be found at the following website: https://therestartproject.org/RestartParty/ VF PH
4 Street Care Team, Litter bins: We will continue to make requests for the recyclable cans and PET bottles collected from street bins and street cleaning to be separated and recycled.  We understand the difficulties of contamination and know that currently LBH don’t attempt to recycle from street bins at all because of this problem. They’re trying to change that, in conjunction with West London Waste, but it may take some time. At present the street bin stuff is incinerated for energy: not ideal but at least nothing ends up in landfill or the sea. However, we still agree that BRAG should make every effort to find a way to recover as much metal from littered cans and reduce the amount of plastic (increasingly more bottles) which litter our streets and cause so much damage to the environment. MC PH
5 General recycling: TerraCycle, an excellent initiative, collect and recycle many forms of recyclable  waste.   Please look at the very comprehensive website:  https://www.terracycle.co.uk/en-GB/ ALL
6 Ealing Repair Café: Ealing Reduce, Reuse and Recycle Support Group are a local group run through Facebook to support local residents in living more sustainable lifestyles. They have already held a Make Do and Mend/Repair Cafe for clothing and textiles, and would like to expand to a full, regular repair cafe for all kinds of household items. Their last clothes repair and making event was in April, at Northfields Community Centre, Northcroft Road, West Ealing and future dates will be found at https://queenofthesuburbs.org/events. ALL
7 Brentford Together: Please support London Sustainability Exchange, Friends of Cathja and Salopian Garden – Cultivate London having won a collaborative Big Lottery grant, which started in April and will run for three years. Planned activities include Dr Bike sessions which are being held in Brentford Market from 10-1 on the first Sunday of every month and sewing sessions on Cathja’s Barge. ALL
8 Festival for the Environment: Last year Rin Roche (Cathja) organised an event in Brentford, Festival of Waste, and this year with similar aims and renamed Festival for the Environment. This means getting together with other local groups who share the same commitment, trying to make this world a little less carbon toxic, more environmentally aware and inclusive and improve the environment in various ways, by increasing walking and cycling, litter picking, planting, awareness raising, outdoor skills etc., and encouraging the community to improve the area.

This will be held in Market Square, Brentford High Street, from 11:00 – 16:00 on Saturday 17th August. BRAG have agreed to take part and will share a stall, as last year, with Friends of the Earth. Any other groups interested in taking part should contact Rin direct for further ,information:  Rin Roche, M: 07904 406507 E: rinny_r02@yahoo.co.uk

8.1 Festival for the Environment: For our contribution to this event we agreed to continue our campaign for reducing plastic litter which usually ends up in the ocean, with a possible new slogan: “From Street to Sea” (other suggestions very welcome, please!). We particularly discussed items which are overlooked as being made partially, or completely, of plastic e.g: cellophane (from cigarette packets), tea bags, confectionery wrapping, crisp packets, dental floss, cotton buds, polystyrene trays from fast food, balloons . . . . what else?  We’d like to feature photographs or drawings of examples in our posters. (Research is also being done to find chemical names of plastics which are used as ingredients of other products – for example, Propylene Glycol in hand cream.)
9 Great British Spring Clean: this initiative ran for a amonth and aimed to inspire people to join forces to clear litter from our streets, parks and beaches, recycling as much as possible. This was well supported and successful nationally. One of our Councillors, Guy Lambert, has played a very active part in Brentford and is making it a monthly event on the third Sunday of each month from 10:00 am at varying locations. The area around Brentford police station was cleared last month and a great deal of rubbish was collected.  If there is an area near you which would improve with some action, please let us – and Guy – know. A suggested area for future work: Lion Way. ALL
10 BRAG Meeting Room: We were very kindly allowed to use the Toll House at Brentford Lock for our monthly meetings.  (Again, our profoundest thanks to Sam Thomas for the use of the facilities. We are very grateful.) So we are now searching for alternative premises for the future and we have a few possibilities to consider.  Any further suggestions/recommendations will be gratefully considered. ALL
11 Brentford Festival: This is being held, as last year, in Blondin Park on Sunday 1st September. BRAG are taking a break from the Festival again this year but, as before,  committee members and other Braggers, will attend and give the other stallholders and organisers their support. ALL
12 Marie Curie Coffee Mornings: These continue to be held every month in the Brentford Dock residents club room to raise funds for Marie Curie. The next one will be on Monday 15th July from 10:30 to 12:30. The Brentford Dock Residents Association have also started producing brunches on the first Wednesday in the month from 11:00 am, all are welcome! ALL
13 Soup Lunches: These are held at Brentford Dock club room on the 4th Thursday of every month  1:00 to 2:30, next one Thursday 25th July. Tasty, healthy, homemade soup, bread and cake! ALL

NEXT MEETING: Wednesday 7th August 2019
7pm TBA
