Air Quality Brentford invites you to its first AGM on Monday, 22 October, at 7.30pm. The venue has yet to be decided and is dependent on numbers. If you are interested, respond to airqualitybrentford@hotmail.com with “YES, I’ll attend the AGM” in the subject line, and AQB will update you on the location.

 

It will be an informal gathering with a short summary of what we’ve been up to, followed by a drink.

Celebrate with Cultivate London on 1 November, and feast on local produce

Join staff and trustees of Cultivate London on Thursday, 1 November, from 5.30pm to 7pm, for its annual celebration, with a light supper using produce grown on its sites across London.

The event will be held at Wasps FC, Twyford Avenue Sports Ground, Acton W3 9QA and will be preceded by Cultivate London’s AGM at 5pm. From 5.45pm to 6.30pm there will be an informal talk, updating friends and sharing news, followed by questions and feedback.

Cultivate London is an urban farm and social enterprise based at multiple derelict sites in West London. It trains unemployed young people in landscaping and horticulture, and works to engage our community in food growing.

The organisation aims to have a long term impact on the lives of young people and change the way Londoners think about their fresh produce and where it comes from.

What really happens to waste collected in Hounslow? Cllr. Lambert fills us in

BRAG recently asked Brentford councillor Guy Lambert about plastics recycling and what happens to the waste collected in Hounslow. We told him that we had heard that items not suitable for recycling go to landfill, incineration or overseas. BRAG members who recently visited the  Southall Lane Recycling Plant had been assured that all non-recyclables were sent to incineration. Continue reading

Open evening at Southall Lane recycling centre in October

NOTE: We have been informed that the evenings are fully booked, but you might still be interested in reading about the events.

The Southall Lane recycling centre is holding two open evenings in October – Thursday the 4th and Monday the 8th — that offer residents of Hounslow an opportunity to visit the new facility, which is not normally open to the public.

There will be two sessions each evening at either 5.30pm or 6.30pm, and each session will last approximately 45 minutes. Parking is available on site. Booking is essentialsee links at end of article. Continue reading

People’s Walk for Wildlife

Chris Packham and other wildlife-lovers are gathering in central London on, Saturday, 22 September, for a one-hour walk for wildlife. It’s a family-friendly event, and all are welcome.

Schedule:
10am: Meet at Reformers Tree, Hyde Park
12 noon: Infotainment
1pm: Walk: Hyde Park Corner, Piccadilly, St James, Pall Mall, Cockspur St, Whitehall
2pm: Finish at Richmond Terrace

The event aims to bring together people who love wildlife, in order to create a unified, stronger and louder voice for making the changes so urgently needed to preserve and protect our wildlife. For further information, please visit:

Don’t miss the Brentford Festival and Tidefest on 2 September

The annual Brentford and Tidefest Festivals will take place on Sunday, 2 September.

The Brentford Festival began in 2005 and has grown into a major community event in West London, with visitors numbers rising from 3,000 to more than 10,000. The festival takes place in Ealing’s Blondin Park, and runs from 12pm to 6pm. Come along to enjoy live music, food, classic vehicle displays and local craft stalls. See website for details.
