Air Quality Brentford is doing another planting project north of Brentford Station on Sunday, 25 March, at 11am (remember clocks will have gone forward one hour). The group has been given some large containers to plant in to and will be building on the bulb planting project on the slope. If you are able to help, it would be great to see you.
Community spirit is alive and well on Orchard Road in Brentford. On Sunday, 3 December, residents, many of them accompanied by children, turned out in force to plant 1,000 spring bulbs on the slope at the railway-station end of the road, near the King’s Arms pub. They also planted flowers in raised beds outside the railway station and on the eastbound platform. The pièce de résistance of the planting project was a small tree with lights on a timer. It will be lit for six hours every day in the Christmas period. Continue reading
BRAG held its first Restart Party on 25 November. The Friends of Cathja charity shop provided a room for us to use for repairing electric and electronic items. On Wednesday, 10 February, a new pop-up shop and community space will be opening at noon in Brentford, sponsored by the London Sustainability Exchange and Friends of Cathja. The venue, at 129-130 High Street, Brentford TW8 8EW (next to the Magpie and Crown pub), will act as a charity shop for local organisation Cathja, but will also be a space for the community to use to put on workshops or just have a cup of tea.
The organisers are looking for people who might like to use the space to put on activities, and also anyone who has a few hours they could volunteer to help running it.
Get in touch or come along on the day to find out more.
London Sustainability Exchange will also be there with an illustrator to find out about residents’ aspirations for the shop and for Brentford. It will then hold an Cathja action planning day in the space on 20 February at 2-4pm in order to activate those aspirations and ideas!
