On Wednesday, 10 February, a new pop-up shop and community space will be opening at noon in Brentford, sponsored by the London Sustainability Exchange and Friends of Cathja. The venue, at 129-130 High Street, Brentford TW8 8EW (next to the Magpie and Crown pub), will act as a charity shop for local organisation Cathja, but will also be a space for the community to use to put on workshops or just have a cup of tea.
The organisers are looking for people who might like to use the space to put on activities, and also anyone who has a few hours they could volunteer to help running it.
Get in touch or come along on the day to find out more.
London Sustainability Exchange will also be there with an illustrator to find out about residents’ aspirations for the shop and for Brentford. It will then hold an Cathja action planning day in the space on 20 February at 2-4pm in order to activate those aspirations and ideas!
Are you interested in learning new skills and knowledge that you can share with your community and contribute to a healthier lifestyle? Then come along to Brentford market this Sunday (10 January) to learn about Well Brentford and Syon.
Well Brentford and Syon (WBS) is an initiative of London Sustainability Exchange, which is working in partnership with LB Hounslow to unlock and develop the borough’s social capital. The programme works with local groups to find out what skills and knowledge would help them move forward and make sure they get access to them.
WBS is aiming to get together a group of at least eight people, who will take part in a training/action planning session in January, and in two or more (depending on what training is requested) skills training sessions in February/March. These skills will be shared with the wider community through a number of events during the summer.
Activities WBS is promoting include vegetable growing, bee keeping, cooking, cycle maintenance, healthy eating, meditation and yoga.
Meetings/training/events will be in Brentford or Hounslow.
If you can’t make it to Brentford market this Sunday, we hope to see you at a London Sustainability Exchange event. The next one is the Warmer Homes Workshop on 20 January at 12-2pm, which will offer information on energy efficiency, and advice on available services and grants. The venue is Age UK, Montague Hall, Hounslow TW3 1LD. Contact Mahfuz Chowdhury on firstname.lastname@example.org. More information at http://www.lsx.org.uk/news/events.aspx?id=3698.
Come along to a walking workshop on Brentford High Street on Wednesday, 27 May, from 1pm to 3pm. This is the first activity in the new Well Brentford and Syon project in Hounslow and aims to give people the chance to have their say on how the high street can change for the better. Continue reading

BRAG members Hugh and Douglas show off our bags
BRAG had a stall at Brentford market at the end of October, sharing a table with the Brentford Works, and had a very successful morning. We gave out about 100 of our cotton shopping bags and sold jars of home-made jams and marmalades for the Marie Curie cancer charity. BRAG committee members Catharine, Douglas, Hugh, Rukmini, Wendy and Virginia were all in attendance, promoting the fewer-plastic bags message alongside the free cotton bags, which are also available at Brentford Works. Check out the BRAG Flickr page for more photos of this and previous events: https://www.flickr.com/groups/brag/pool
