It’s Great British Spring Clean time again!

Grab your litter picks and pack some bin bags, because it’s time for a bit of a Spring Clean. Hounslow Council is encouraging residents, community groups, schools and businesses to get involved in the Great British Spring Clean!

Keep Britain Tidy’s national event is taking place from Friday, 25 March until Sunday, 10 April. This year’s campaign message is a simple: join the #BigBagChallenge and pledge to pick up as much litter as possible.

Whether it’s an alleyway, or a neglected part of your local park, near your home or work, you can organise a clean up event and get your friends, colleagues, family and neighbours involved too. If you just want to come along to an existing clean-up that has already been organised, then you can join any that are already registered as open events.

Once you have pledged, let Hounslow Council know about your clean-up event by emailing: Cleaner.Greener@hounslow.gov.uk. The Council can provide you with equipment including bags and lending you litter pickers for your event. It can also organise for your bagged waste to be collected after the clean-up.

Tell the world

If you’ve followed the first two steps, you should be all set to go. So, why not let everyone know what you’re doing?

You can promote your event on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram – Don’t forget to tag Hounslow Council on Twitter (@LBofHounslow), Facebook (hounslowcouncil), Instagram (hounslowcouncil) and include the #BigBagChallenge and #CleanerGreenerHounslow too, so that you link in with the main campaign online.

After the clean up

Submit your results on Keep Britain Tidy’s website and tell Hounslow Council how many bags of waste you’ve collected!

Take photos of your clean up, with details of those involved, and we will share your efforts on social media to inspire others to get involved as well. Please send to Cleaner.Greener@hounslow.gov.uk.

Litter picking with Councillor Lambert

Several BRAG members joined Councillor Guy Lambert on 30 August for the resumption of his monthly litter-picking sessions. Many thanks to Tynissa, Community Champion at Morrisons Brentford, who was among the pickers and supplied water and snacks.

The litter picks will be held on the last Sunday of the month from 2pm to 3pm.

Councillor Lambert supplies litter pickers and bags, plus gloves if needed. He is urging people to nominate hot spots/black spots that could be tackled in future sessions.
