Alternative Valentine Feast with Recycle for London

Recycle for London’s Love Food Hate Waste campaign is helping consumers save up to £50 a month by reducing the amount of food they throw away at home. The campaign provides practical advice, tips and recipes to help people reduce food waste.

As part of the Love Food Hate Waste campaign we are working with Forgotten Feast to run a ‘pop-up’ restaurant on February 14th – the ‘Alternative Valentine’s Banquet’ – using surplus food and to promote the Love Food Hate Waste messages.

We are looking for volunteers to get involved in this exciting event both on the day and before. This includes 6 waiters, a kitchen porter and some creative volunteers too. We will be needing some help to make some recycled paper roses for table decorations and to be handed out to the general public on the morning of the event.

Recycle for London are looking for people to:-

Help us make recycled paper roses (here at City Hall from 9am-12.30pm on Tuesday 12th February)

Hand out roses to random people in London (we thought at rush hour – any time between 7am-10am , and lunch hour – any time between noon-2.30pm) on Thursday 14th February

Work at the event itself – we need 6 waiting staff and 1 kitchen porter (no experience necessary) in venue in Hackney (times below) on Thursday 14th February – NB – Love Food Hate Waste training, training for the night, food and basic travel expenses provided.

We require:

Tuesday 12th February – Making recycled paper roses:
From 9am-12.30pm (or as long as you can stay) at City Hall to help make the roses with training from Rachel our designer.

Thursday 14th February – Handing out recycled paper roses to Londoners:
Whatever time you have available, but ideally at rush hour (some time between 7am-10am) and lunchtime (any time between 12pm-2pm) to help hand out the roses anywhere across London.

Thursday 14th February – Serving food and drinks at the Alternative Valentine’s Feast (and providing information on Love Food Hate Waste if possible):
4 waiters 4pm-11:30pm
2 waiters 6pm-1am
1 kitchen porter 3pm-11pm

Love Food Hate Waste training will be provided before the event plus volunteers will get food on the night and basic expenses (eg travel costs for public transport).

If you are able to help and would like to get involved please email us at asap.

Brentford Archaeology

On the 19 th of June the Museum of London is starting a project in Brentford that will see local volunteers looking at and reorganising archaeological finds discovered on Brentford High Street in the 1970s. These objects are normally stored at the Museum’s Archaeological Archive (officially the largest in the world!) so this is a one off opportunity to access them in their original context.
